Research within any industry or profession is necessary to determine whether the provision of products, services and/or interventions is meeting the needs of the targeted audience and to gain an understanding of how to improve service delivery. Such research will benefit from both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. While quantitative methods have traditionally dominated the Indian research landscape; increasingly, qualitative methodologies and methods are recognised as a means for better understanding the experiences and challenges faced in everyday society.
